Omega - Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 - 2019
The Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 commemorates the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon in December 1968. The entire case is crafted from black zirconium oxide ceramic, creating a monochromatic timepiece that reveals its character through the laser-ablated dial ā a process that exposes the lunar surface topography of both the near and far sides of the Moon.
The 44.25mm black ceramic case provides exceptional scratch resistance whilst maintaining a lightweight feel on the wrist. Sapphire crystals front and rear showcase the decorated movement. Water resistant to 50 metres.
The black dial has been laser-ablated to reveal a detailed representation of the lunar surface, with the far side visible through the dial and the near side through the caseback. Yellow accents on the chronograph seconds hand and tachymeter scale provide a striking contrast against the monochromatic palette.
The hand-wound Calibre 1869 is a decorated version of the legendary Moonwatch movement, featuring black-coated bridges with laser-ablated detailing. Operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with 18 jewels, it delivers 48 hours of power reserve.
A black nylon strap with yellow stitching and accents echoes the dial's colour scheme, secured with a ceramic deployant clasp.
Excellent condition from 2019 means minimal wear ā expect light surface marks on the case, maintained in nearly new condition. Complete with original box and original papers. The manufacturer's warranty has expired; this watch is covered by Pride and Pinion's comprehensive 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
The Apollo 8 edition brings the story of space exploration to the wrist through material innovation and historical significance.
